As a result of the current development of digital libraries, many universities' libraries are putting efforts on information resources collection, and owing digital information resources in certain scale. However, because of the varieties of the information sources, it is lack of relation between each other. Meanwhile, the platform and the methods for searching information are also different between one and others. Consequently, users found it is difficult to make use of these different digital resources efficiently. The same problem also can be found in the Nanjing University of Technology library, and information integration technology is required to solve the problem. Based on this background, in order to offer users of Nanjing University of Technology a united searching platform and improve efficiency in finding the relevant information, this paper aimed at researching the possible integration of the digital resources of the library by CORBA and XML technology.This paper researched the current situation of information integration technologies and its application in the library field. Based on the researches of distributed-object technology, CORBA and XML, and the deficiency of integration of the information resources, this paper researched applying CORBA and XML in the information resources integration, then put forward a integrating project which used advanced CORBA and XML technologies to realize the distributed information resources in the library. The project used advanced three-layer C/S model, and used CORBA to establish different distributed-object system on construct platform, applied XML to integrate and describe information. As an ideal system structure under the distributed environment, CORBA nearly supports all operating systems and many kinds of programming languages. The system built by CORBA based on the thought of package, every package in the system can replace and revise easily, thus the burden on system safeguard will be alleviated. XML has strong ability on expression, which makes application programs need not to know the physics positions of the data, so avoids the impact on application program due to the adding and deleting of the structure of the data. Also, XML is fit for describing level date. As the result, these two technologies have strong advantages in distributed environment and data integration. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of the project, this paper combined the actualities of the electronic information resources in the NJUT library.This paper established a system to integrate EI and Elsevier.It used C/S and CORBA to construct platform, used XML to integrate and express data. By applying the system, the client port can transfer CORBA servicing program through CORBA naming server to search electronic resources in library, and use XML analyzer to dispose result information, draw out the useful results and return to the users. The combined application of CORBA and XML develops the system's abilities in cross-platform, extensive and data expression, and save development cost.At last, this paper presented brief introduction of the system's shortness and furture work.
