The technology of Virtual Reality creates a computer software and hardware environment which provides the natural simulation and realistic experience. As a novel technology, it has attacted much attention for its reality action and consciousness simulation.Based on a comprehensive study of Virtual Reality system and the Solaris operating system, the author proposed the design idea in order to realize Virtual Reality in Solaris system, and some key technologies, such as modeling, scene render, controlling motion and so on. Further, the author calls the Motif library, GLUT library and OpenGL to construct a Virtual Reality prototype system in Solaris system.Because OpenGL can only apply the original point, line and polygon, in this project, the author firstly analyzes the data structures of 3DS and DXF files in 3DMAX and AutoCAD, which are usually applied to construct Virtual Reality system. And a simple and high efficient data structure of scene model is proposed. The data structure extracted and converted from 3DS and DXF files is dealt with OpenGL in order to finish the model construction. Secondly, the author realized to read and browse scene with reality sensation using some input device such as mouse. Lastly, a Virtual Reality prototype system is finished.In the first few chapters, emphasis has been given to the design and implementation of Virtual Reality in Solaris system. In last chapter, the author turned over to think the faultiness in original design, and put forward some schemes to optimize the design.
