As the short message business becomes more and more popular, people has developed the matured standard and solution to short message transmission and reception between mobile phones or fixed phones. But people can't transmit and receive short messages between IP phone terminals. With the development and application of IP phones, short message communication between IP phones becomes a necessary work and will promote the IP phones business.After having done a lot of research on protocol H.323 and the development platform of IP phone terminals, the author put forward a creative method to achieve the desirable goal. Gatekeeper in Protocol H.323 is used as the short message storing and transferring center, and the usual IP phone terminals are unproved functionally, then the short message in Protocol H.323 is used to connect the IP phone terminals and Netgate (short message center), realizing the procedure for short message transmission and reception, thus short message business between the IP phone terminals is achieved. By this method, it can also avoid the tremendous change of the existing system. Successful tests in different environments prove that the method can fulfill the short message transmission and reception between the IP phone terminals. This method mentioned in the article is suitable for the IP phone system following the Protocol H.323.The article begins with the introduction of IP phones and short message, and then describes the realization of Chinese display and Chinese input module involved in the short message communication. Detailed description is that how to use protocol H.323 to realize the short message communication between IP phone terminals. The author also reveals the test results and the assumption to make improvements.
