Traffic jam which is restricting the sustainable development of city economy is a common problem in many cities at present. The development of public traffic is the key to solve this problem, and how to improve public traffic service quality, develop public traffic intelligent information system have been draw much attention. Based on profound learning and analysising, as well as GPS and GSM technology, a bus information inquiry system including the static and dynamic information has been put out.Firstly, based on an introduction to the studies of the city bus information system both at home and abroad, user agents, information requirement and user services of the bus information inquiry system have been analyzed as well as the feasibility and superiority to use mobile phone short message to query bus information.Secondly, with GPS and GPRS technology, the bus onboard positioner has been designed. Based on the bus lines of Fuzhou, the process of collecting, extracting and analysising on bus positioning data has been completed as well as the bus information database including the static and dynamic one. After analyzing the main influencing factors of the bus passenger in choosing the trip path, combining the common algorithm of the shortest path and their limitations, according to the processing speed of computer and the actual status of bus, the choice of the optimal path for bus passenger has been completed by using the bisearch method based on a two-dimensional table, with the first constraint condition of the least transfer, and also the searchig speed of the system has been improved.Finally, the short message center and the system soft frame have been designed with GSM device and application software, accessing to database and communicating the bus passenger to the information center have been carried out with VB programming language. At the same time, the bus line, bus station, transfer and other information have been queried expediently anytime and anywhere by mobile phone user, and the real-time position information of bus has been showed with the positioning data. So that, the bus service quality would be improved, a great many of travelers would be attracted to travel by bus.
