In this paper, the fundamental algorithms of toolpath planning of Chinese characters based on vector font are discussed and analyzed. The object is to do some groundwork for developing a CNC(Computer Numerical Control) engraving software of all copyright reserved. In the first part, the structure and storage format of the two vector fonts are analyzed, especially the True Type font. The process of reading Chinese characters from TTF file is discussed. The two data structures of character of the vector fonts are also analyzed. One is based on the stroke glyph, the other is based on outline contour profile. Some mathematic problems about vector graphics in the plane are studied, and a concrete arithmetic is educed either. Based on the algorithms, the toolpath planning of outline contour glyph data Structures can be worked out.The above engraving way is based on the vector fonts in outer contour glyph data Structures. However there are some fonts whose data architecture are stored in overlap stroke glyph. They can't be used to CNC program directly. In order to use the stroke glyph to engrave, the conversion algorithms between the two kinds of glyph data structures is discussed and analyzed.Based on the theoretical analysis and discussion above, the corresponding Visual Basic procdure is programmed, and the simulation of reading character' s data structure from the TTF is done. The simulation results proved that the algorithms we put out and discussed are right and feasible. It will be a fundamental mathematic job for software development...
