Internet is changing the world, and enterprises are stepping into the network age. The management and manufacturing of the modern enterprise is converting to the global and network mode. The market is various and unfathomable. Enterprises are becoming more and more complicated. It is becoming more and more difficult to understand, control or manage an enterprise. On the other hand, the implement of CIMS requires better enterprise model. Enterprise models not only describe enterprises but also direct all the other aspects of enterprises, such as enterprise management, running, designing and so on.According to the problems above paragraphs, the networked enterprise modeling system based on J2EE and UML has been developed. Furthermore, the transforming from models to the program codes has been implemented in this modeling system. The isolation between model build-time and run-time is changed in this way.In the 1st chapter, the definition and necessity of enterprise modeling are presented. The current problems of the enterprise modeling are discussed. The importance and necessity of enterprise modeling based on UML and the transforming from models to the program codes are studied, too. At last, the framework and main research contents of this paper are discussed. In the 2nd chapter, the theory of enterprise modeling is studied in detail. Firstly, some architectures of enterprise modeling are discussed, such as CIM-OSA, ARIS, GRAI-GIM, GERAM, BAAN, IBM-CIM, Purdue and IFIP WG8.1. Sequentially, these architectures are compared one another. Secondly, some methods of enterprise modeling are discussed, such as function tree, E-R, DFD, eEPC, Petri and IDEF. These methods are also compared one another. Lastly, the networked modeling system based on J2EE and UML is presented after the new requirements for enterprise modeling are analyzed. In the 3rd chapter, the model views and characteristics of UML are introduced in detail. The merits and feasibility of enterprise modeling based on UML are discussed by the comparison with eEPC and other modeling methods. In the 4th chapter, the architecture of J2EE and the advantage for using it to realize the enterprise application system are presented firstly. Then, The merits, software architecture and functions of the networked modeling system based on J2EE and UML are presented in detail. In the 5th chapter, the significance of the transformation from enterprise model to application system is discussed. Three methods, which translate enterprise models into computer application systems, are presented. Their merits and shortcomings are compared, too. A translation system was developed according to one of the three methods. The key technologies of the system are discussed in the paper. In the end, the main research contents of the dissertation and the related future research aresummarized in the 6th chapter.
