Modern industry production has great performance in productive efficiency, low cost, energy saving and human resource saving, but the loss which results from equipment failure will also increase in proportion. In particular, once equipments like steel-making converters have accidents during producing course, which will not only result in great economic losses but also put workers in danger. When making steel, steel-making converter's lining meets molten steel, slag and smoke directly, and it is eroded by physical, mechanical and chemical effect continuously. Accordingly, the thickness of the whole or part of steel-making converter's lining decreases increasingly. So, it is very important to detect the erosion condition of steel-making converter's lining and to adopt corresponding measures in time for steel-making furnace to maintain its high yield and longevity.Taking laser thickness measurement as primary detection method, combining the result of flame image processing, this paper presents a multi-sensor fusion detection scheme which is based on the research of multi-sensor data fusion theory and method. Because the eroded state and process of converter's lining is described difficultly with mathematic model, this paper uses BP network as fusion algorithm, and takes good use of self-teaching character of neural network to realize the function of multi-sensor fusion. In addition, the design of laser thickness measurement system is finished. Based on the study on characteristic of different thickness measurement methods and measurement scope, aiming at the application background of thickness measurement of converter's lining, a laser thickness measurement system based on the phase method is designed in this paper. During the process of design, we deeply analyze and discuss some key technology such as the problem of big and small angle detecting phase.In this paper, a new method of converter detection is presented. Realization of this system would make real time detect converter in the process of manufacture feasible and improve the efficiency of detection. At the same time, this scheme provides reference value for other high temperature detection in industry.
