Feature technique is not only the key of the integration of CAD/CAM system, but also the core of the product modeling technique. Some key techniques in concurrent-oriented CAD/CAM integration are studied in this paper, including: Features-based meanings in concurrent-oriented CAD/CAM integration, and the algorithms for obtaining machining-oriented models by integrating feature-based design and feature recognition. The main researches cover the following aspects:1. The overall schema for CAD/CAM integration in Concurrent Engineering. A CAD/CAM integration schema for Concurrent Engineering and thecorresponding implementing plan are proposed. A system-constructing framework for concurrent-oriented CAD/CAMintegration is designed, including all the functional components in anintegrated system and the way they are organized.2. The representing method for feature-based and concurrent-oriented product models. The strategy for representing the concurrent-oriented product model is proposed. The representation of concurrent-oriented product model is feature-based; Design features and manufacturing features exist in a same model and are interrelated; Manufacturing features are recognized from design-feature based model. The product models' representing schema is designed. A product model is a reasonable combination of the representation of the following aspects: boundary geometry (B-rep), design feature, manufacturing feature and the relationship among design features and manufacturing features. Feature relation graph is designed to completely describe the relationship among design features and machining features.3. The meanings for obtaining manufacture-oriented models by integrationfeature-based design and feature recognition. A regularized algorithm for design-feature based model is presented toobtain regularized design-feature based model, in which design features canbe used directly for machining features' decomposition. Based on regularized design-feature based model, all the machining features(represented as volume) can be decomposed from the Part's total machiningvolume by the machining feature decomposition algorithm. The semantics of machining features are translated in the proposedmachining feature recognition algorithm, and the representation of therelationship among design features and the corresponding machiningfeatures is constructed.
