IntroductionPicture archiving and communication system (PACS) is one kind of informative managing system concerning with digital medical image, based on computer and internet, and applied in radiology department or even more other areas. PACS is suitable for the development of modern medical radiology, and can meet the needs in fast collecting, transmitting, storing, searching or handling image data. So the use of PACS is the tendency to develop our medical radiology in future. Also there exist some problems in the development of PACS: the transitions and storage of a large amount of data, a large amount of data compress and the loss of data after being compressed, the influence on the image quality and the diagnosis, the safety of PACS, the ability of keeping secrete, etc.The aim of this research was to compare the quality of imaging display and accuracy of diagnosis by assessing and analyzing the image material of the same patient in 1024 x 1024 pixel (IK) images on a PACS workstation and in CR film and find out whether there is difference or not in statistics.Materials and Methods1N The patient's selection?150 cases of chest film taken from the radiology department in NO. 2 affiliated hospital of China Medical University were chosen at random.2X Experimental equipment-.Picture collections were performed using FUJI CR system. FL -IM 3543 II laser printer was used to print the film.IK monitors(19 inch plane SONY monitor) were used to assess and analyze the images in PACS workstation.3 N The assessment and analysis of images; Two experts majoring in respiratory system was selected to assess the quality of image in the same case on IK monitor of PACS and the printing film. The results were divided into: the excellent , the good and the general. The middle part of lung field( no lesion) was selected to be the region of interest. The criterion of evaluation was as follows; " the excellent" is referred to the area in which the margin of the lung marking was sharp and clear; " the good" is referred to the area in which the margin of the lung marking was partly sharp; " the general" is referred to the area in which the margin of the lung marking was blur. The image of the same patient was assessed by two experts using 1K monitor and the film respectively to determine normal or abnormal result . The abnormal results were recorded according to their locations , numbers and quality . The contrast and grayscale on the screen of 1K monitor was adjusted satisfactory to meet the need of doctors forthe diagnosis in the process of evaluation.4. Analysis in statistics:The result was analyzed statistically using x2 test . Statistical difference was analyzed between these two groups of image.Results1. The quality of imaging displayThere is no statistical difference in the good rate of the quality of imaging display between the two groups of image. There is no statistical difference in the excellent rate of the quality of imaging display between two groups of image. In 43 cases whose age lower than 6 years old, there is still no statistical difference in the good rate and the excellent rate of the quality of imaging display between two groups of image.2 . Positive resultsThere is no statistical difference in the positive detection rate between the two groups of image. The positive results include emphysema, enhancement of local lung marking , effusion, consolidation, fibrotic stripe, nodules or tumor ,calcification ,pleura! changes, pneumothorax and hydropneu-mothorax. In one case, the enhancement of local lung marking was diagnosed on the film, whereas normal on IK monitor of PACS. In addition, multifocal lesions were compared using IK monitor and film respectively and the result show the difference was absent between the two groups of image. 2 cases of lobular nodule and 1 case of less emphysema were clearly showed both on IK monitor and on the film.Discussionselection of objects and methodsRespiratory system is the most excellent system in nature - cont...
