With the development of electricity and communication technology. Digital technology enters into the field of earthquake observation. In the beginning of 7()'s, digital earthquake recorder was introduced. The digital earthquake data acquired by digital instrument makes the seismologist interpret changing from analog earthquake trace to total earthquake wave.The high Signal-to-Noise and high precision is attracting the attention from home and abroad at the present time. In our country, the digital earthquake observation instrument was not as good as the abroad product in the performance of instrument. So, the aim of this project is to develop the digital earthquake observation instrument which performance is outgo the abroad product and the price is very low.This system described in the paper uses the 24 bits ?- A A/D chipset which has the high dynamic range and DSP as processor. Nevertheless the author controls strictly the chipsets which maybe influence the system dynamic range so that the system can achieve the optimal performance.Designed mainly the part of earthquake data acquisition, the author introduced the instrument development and constitution and so on in this paper first part. The system hardware design is particularly described in second sector and software design following it. In the last of this paper, the author analyses the total system through physical data acquired from the system.
