From the points of view for practical uses, the theory and applications of time-delay control systems based on genetic algorithms are studied in this paper. The theory of genetic algorithms and fuzzy control theory as well as combination way of the two are discussed emphatically. Based on this, Genetic algorithms are used to adjust the parameters of the filter in the internal model controller, the simulation experiments and the real-time temperature control of electrical furnace have been made.The main research and contributions of this paper are as follows:1. An survey of genetic algorithms, fuzzy control and the time-delay systems is summarized. Some opinions about the combination of genetic algorithms and fuzzy control applied to time-delay systems are put forward.2. The method of internal model control applied to time-delay systems and its design theory are discussed. For the sake of show the effect of adjusting the parameter of the filter in the internal model controller, thesimulation experiments are made. The results show that adjusting the parameters of the filter in the internal model controller has important effect at adaptability, anti-jamming and robust for the time-delay systems. So adjusting the parameters of the inter model controller is essential.3. An introduction of the basic theory of genetic algorithms, the thinking of programming and the improvement of the genetic algorithms are given.4. An introduction of design method of fuzzy controller is given. The method of the combination of the genetic algorithms and fuzzy control is studied. The method of optimizing the fuzzy control query table by using the genetic algorithms is discussed.5. The fuzzy query table which has been optimized by using the genetic algorithms is used to adjust the parameter of back-filter in the internal model controller. While the parameter of the former-filter in the internal model controller is adjusted on line by using the genetic algorithms. The method of the two-degree-of -freedom intelligent internal model control is put forward.The application of temperature control of a electrical furnace shows that this algorithm has good performance.
