Since 1970's, with the development and maturation of digital signal processing technique, traditional radio stations migrated from analog to digital in the aspects of system control, signal source and channel codec, and hardware technique. Digital radio stations have a lot of advantage over analog radio stations for many aspects, such as whole structure and capability. But digital radio stations still have some insufficiencies. The realization of functions is strongly depended on hardware. Specified radio station can only being applied in some special communication systems. In addition, with the expansion of communication operations, new radio stations are hard to accommodate old ones. Therefore, facing the multi-mode in the wireless communication system, existing radio stations can not meet the need of personal communication object.Software radio emerged as the times require, and provided a thought of solving this problem. Software radio is a novel wireless communications technology, which is based on a versatile programmable platform to realize all kinds of communications criterions and to meet the need of many increasing new molds and functions. The hardware structure of software radio system is separated from function. So it can base on relatively universal hardware platform, realize different communication functions, and control the working frequency, system band wide, modulation model by programming. System's agility is highly improved.This paper discusses the realization of the software radio receiver. The architectures of the receiver are RF pass band direct sampling and IF pass-band sampling with high-speed analog to digital converter after RF to IF conversion. The first kind of architectures is hard to realize because of the requisition ofdevices is too high. Then it will do some other digital process. The evolution of programmable hardware and increased flexibility via increased programmability has been accomplished by a combination of techniques. These include multi-band antenna and RF conversion, wideband analog to digital (A/D), and digital to analog (D/A) conversion.This paper first expatiates on the theory of software radio, discussing the Multi-rate Digital Signal Processing, High-speed Data Acquisitions, Digital Product Detector and Digital Signal Demodulation. Then on the basis of those, a model of software radio receiver is given. Operations are determined using hardware whose configuration is under software control. Finally, the circuits are realized with hardware, in order to prove the discussed schemes.
