This paper introduces the basic concept and development of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), the significance of the moving targets detection and imaging based on SAR is emphasized firstly. Then an overview of the principle of SAR is given, the computer model of the radar echo is discussed in detail, the simulation result of the ideal static point target and ideal static distributed target based on the computer model are presented. The computer model of moving target and the affection of moving target upon SAR are also discussed; similarly the simulation result of the moving point target based on the model is present too. The paper overviews the history of moving targets detection and imaging based on SAR, the methods based on Doppler filtering, Doppler rate filtering, parameter estimation and multichannel SAR imaging are discussed in detail. The paper focuses on the two methods used in spaceborne SAR which are displaced phase center antenna and along-track interferometric. At last the concept of distributed microsatellites is introduced and some methods of moving targets detection and imaging based on distributed microsatellites are discussed.
