The paper discusses the approach of variable structure control using in the automation train control system (ATCs). At the first, we introduce the concept and current status of the ATCs, Analysize the problems that existing in the current ATCs. Secondly, the research achievement of the variable structure control is studied. Finally, the simulation mode is established, and the adjustment speed system with Train using MATLAB/Simulink simulation software is simulated and analysized. In the same time, a contrast with the traditional PI control system is made to show its effectiveness.The system has double closed loops, i.e., inner loop and the outer loop. The system selects switching surface according to the approach of variable structure control. Based on the control rules to design the variable structure controllers, the inner loop and the outer loop form a complete VSC control loop. The control system has switching surface and the system brings sliding along fixed desired trajectories. We setup a simulation mode based on the mathematic mode given by [35]. Under different conditions, for example, with variable additional resists or system parameters, the system applies the variable structure controller to adjust the speed system with train.The results of simulation show the variable structure control can achieve a fast response, high stability under parametric variations and disturbances, with noovershoot. Additionally, it has stability for the adjustment speed of ATCs and provides the comfortable speed, for the travelers, and improves the system performance. So it forms a basement for the intelligent ATCs, and provides a available study of the local high intelligent ATC, so as to the train no man driving technology.Finally, it offers a improved approach for the problems of humble, using the combinative method of VSC and PI controller and the second attaching law.
