Nowadays, people attach more and more importance to both OLAP and Web Service. OLAP provides people with a powerful information analysis & processing technology; Web Service, an open, simple software technology, which developed rapidly during recent two years, makes platform-span system integration much easier than before.Technology features of both OLAP and Web Service are discussed in this thesis, and system architecture for Web Service-based OLAP (WSOLAP) tools is put forward. As an example, a practical OLAP tools based on Web Service is implemented on .NE platform. Following is the main contents description of this thesis:At the first, OLAP technology and its features under Client/Server & Browser/Server architecture are analyzed thoroughly. Web Service and related open standard, WSDL and SOAP, are also introduced. System architecture for WSOLAP is put forward in the following, and its technology features are discussed compared with OLAP under C/S & B/S architecture. In Chapter 3, this thesis discusses the technics of design and implementation for the server-side of WSOAP. MS OLAP Service is utilized as OLAP engine, and Web Service access the engine with ADOMD. An encapsulation model and corresponding algorithm are designed to encapsulate multi-dimension dataset. The problem of how to locate MD(Multi-Dimensional) dataset position is resolved by designing a special MD dataset counter. Session management is implemented with Session Object in Web application on .NET platform. The technics of design and implementation for the client-side of WSOAP are discussed in the chapter 4. Client-side parsing algorithm is designed and implemented to parse MD dataset, which is encapsulated with XML on server-side. In order to store and access MD dataset, dynamic-depth tree model for MD dataset is designed and implemented.
