Prosperity of market economy and entrance to WTO are promoting the development of modern commerce and accelerating the course of commercial automatization. Thereinto, the foundation of POS (Point of Sales) system is an important way to realize commercial automatization in our country. POS system, which is called real-time management system of sales point too, means that commodity information data process was accomplished instantly during selling. So it is a new type of commercial sales system that come into practice with the popularization and development of computer technology. It is capable of directly and in-time book-keeping, it is also a combination of modern computer and network communication technology. The application of bar code technology in POS system can improve working efficiency and managing level. The application of POS system in commerce can satisfy to the demands of customers and realize the goal of improving working efficiency, reducing the cost, accelerating the flowage of capital, lowering the venture and gaining the maximum profit.We have surveyed and analyzed some methods about commercial automatization. According to the actual commercial situation now, the modern network technology, database technology and rapid visual software technology have been fully used to design and develop the front POS system and support system which based on client/server network model. The main work and conclusion in this paper are described as follow: ① The commercial automatization in several supermarkets and malls of Chongqing has been surveyed and analyzed, especially the front POS system . As a result, a relevant requirement analysis report was presented.② The structure of network and database has been designed according to the function of POS system. During the process of designing database, the managing function of SQL Server 2000 database management system was fully used, including store procedure and trigger. All of these made the design easy and secure.③ The conception of difference data has been brought forward. At the same time, the program has been designed to ensure the facticity, real-time and integrality of the data that were transported in network.④ The POS system has been designed and developed, which works on windows operating system, and has friendly interface and multi-function. Several maintenances can diagnose and prompt the type of error automatically once the system fall into fault.The front POS system can collect the information of customers, such as sex, age, income level and the weather, etc. which helps the support system to make decisions.⑤ The framework of the support system has been designed, which works on Windows NT operating system. It can gather and query the front sales data, print sales report, input the basic information and manage the storage dynamically.
