This thesis intrOduces basic feature of the virmal Instrumen technology used ininsboam colltrol domain. It presents the model of modem insinam cothel andexPlains the relation of the major standards involved in ths area such as GPIB interface,IEEE 488.2 standard, otc. It analyZes the smictute, principle and charaCter of VISA(VrtUal InstrUmen Software Architectue) and SCPI (Standard Commands forProgrammable Insboenation) technical standards deePly It introduces thecombination of the VISA and SCPI technology as instrUmtal I/O control in developingatomatic e1eCtfomagnetic environxnent measuring prOjeCt. It emPloys visual Basic 6.0as aPplication development platform because of its popularity powerful function, easyof ledring and prograxnming. This thesis also investigates the method of using VISAand SCPI functions in VB environment. The method used in this thesis to develoPinstaen cofltrOl aPplication is suitable for agile and multi~purpose aPplications,especially When the inStrumCfl driver is unavailable or the insboCll driver cannotsatisfy the need of end-user This method can also be used in deve1oping insboentdriver for its caPability to suPport almost popular insboCni illterface.
