With the coming of information society and the wide application of digital multimedia technology in the 21st century, the increment of data size in various media is explosive. The research and development on high capacity, high quality storage device have become an urgent task. Digital holographic storage is a hot point in this field for its outstanding features and development potential. The high fidelity of stored data as the requirement for practicability makes the efficient noise control in storage system an important research direction. Focusing on such a target, the paper discusses the application of digital signal processing for noise control in digital holographic storage.The paper researches some key techniques by considering the storage system as a communication system. The main jobs that have been finished include follow:1. The noises in storage system have been analyzed, and they are classified according to their effect on image retrieval. A noise model of storage channel has been established and the noise magnitude is researched with quantitative analysis by storage channel simulation.2. A digital holographic storage scheme based on digital signal processing is designed, and storage, read and redisplay of video data are implemented. This result is firstly achieved in China.3. A new structure of modulation code is proposed. Modulation桝rray (MA) code and a novel soft-decision method corresponding to MA code are designed for data processing in digital holographic storage systems. Also developed based on the MA code is a new iterative decoding algorithm, which integrates principles of modulation code detection, soft-decision, array code error-correction and Turbo code decoding, and it has been successfully used in reading and writing video data.The research results in the paper have been proved to be effective in noise control of digital holographic storage, fidelity enhancement and storage increment. It establishes a foundation for future research on digital holographic storage.
