| With the rapid development of computer, communication and network, home network is stepping into daily life. As the essence of home network, home automation is on the fly in China and other countries. CEBus protocol is one of the standards of ETA for home automation. By using it, the home appliances can be connected as a network and get interoperability, which makes them intelligent. CEBus protocol includes EL4 600 specifications, EJA 72] specifications and Home Plug and Play specfications. The research and development of the thesis are based on these specifications and the related documents. The thesis includes into 12 chapters. Chapter one gives simply introduction to the home automation and CEBus protocol and describes the background of the project. Chapter two introduces some famous standards in home automation, which are helpful to our development work. The CEBus protocol is described in detail from chapter three to eight. The hardware design of the universal communication board and the implements corresponding software are presented in chapter mile. Chapter ten describes the software design for the high layers, emphasizing the implements of CAL. Chapter eleven introduces how to use the universal communication board to develop intelligent home appliance and how to connect them as a home automation network. At last, chapter twelve summarizes the whole thesis and gives some new idea for our CEBus network.
