Design And Analysis Of The Email System In Ocean Shipping

Along with high-speed development of Internet whose foundation is TCP/IP, E-mail has gone deep into every corner in the land network. E-mail is so popularization because it provides a way to pass information fast and convenient, also because it's low cost. But for the people who sailing or working in the sea, it is not easy to use E-mail, because there lack perfect communication establishment and network basic which is familiar in the land. This thesis discusses how to develop an E-mail system in the ocean shipping from two aspects: the means and the protocol used for communication and advice using INMARSAT-B satellite communication system to be the means. Base on the analyses of the TCP performance in satellite network educed that it is unfit for using in the satellite environment directly. Base on the summaries of possible TCP enhancements, this thesis puts forward an advice to achieve the E-mail system in the ocean shipping and prove the feasibility by a real system.
