Research And Design Of CORBA-Based Distributed VOD System

VOD (Video on Demand) system can be widely used in many fields, such as long distance education, digital library, news on demand, TV on demand and etc. Video Server is the key part of VOD system, whose performance has direct effect on the service quality of VOD system. So the design of Video Server is a very important research topic in distributed multimedia fields. This paper adopts the CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) technology to have a research about VOD System.The goal of this paper is to use the special service that CORBA presents to implement high performance distributed VOD system. The key technology includes the implementation of multithread order servers and the strategy of the load balance of order servers and media servers.On the basis of analyzing the structure and the performance of the distributed VOD system and modeling mathematically the key factors of the system, this paper implements experimental CORBA-based distributed VOD system. The integrated software design of this experimental system is presented and the main problems are discussed in the process of the designation and the implementation. Finally, this paper presents methods which are used to implement multithread order servers and the load balance of order servers and media servers. The content in this paper can present the technology support for the relative study of the VOD system.
