This work is mainly about a Visual Enviromnent for the Development of PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) programs under NCE (Network Computing Environment), a tool whose aim is to facilitate transparent programming. Based on the detailed study on the interface for developing PVM tools and the interface for customizing Visual C++6.O, a solution to the implementation of visual environment for the development of PVM application is put forward. And a win32- based prototype of the visual environment, called PVMDS, has been implemented with VC6.O and GNU GCC. Using Client/Server architecture, PVMDS integrates heterogeneous hosts into a unified visual environment. Currently, PVMDS offers two kinds of visual tools to help in the development of PVM application, a transparent parallel PVM application project management tool and a distributed debugger tool. By reusing all possible existing software resource, PVMDS has been constructed at lowest cost. The Client/Server architectures of PVMDS have taken full advantages of PVM message mechanism that simplifies the implementation of communication between PVMDS and multiple servers, On win32 platform, PVMDS employs COM mechanic to seamlessly integrate with Visual C++6.O and Visual C++ Developer Studio also is used as a COM server to implement debugger server.
