In 1992, Jeo Mitola posed the concept of SDR(software defined radio), whichattracted great attention of the international communication circle. The software radioarchitecture centers on the use of wideband A/D and D/A converters as close to antennaas possible, with as much radio functionality as possible defined in software. As a result,to accomplish the compatibility of the radio station in various networks as well as thecontinuity of updating and upgrading of radio station function. The software radio hasbecome a main developing direction of wireless communication. Especially duringthese years, the software radio has emerged from military to become a cornerstone ofthird eneration (3G) strategies for affordable high-performance regional and globalcommunications. And now, the software radio is described as a cornerstone in theevolution of GSM in publication if the GSM MOU Committee. This paper mainlydiscusses how the idea of software radio is realized in the design of the softwarereceiver0 The hardware and software schemes had been demonstrated. The technologyof signal sampling and digital signal processing had been discussed particularly thatinclude MRDSP(multirate digital signal process) ,polyphase architecture for FIR filter&low-pass filter ,quadrature demodulation unnecessary to mixing and the theory ofBPSS (bandpass signal sampling) .Finally the demodulation algorithms were optimizedand using the trial platform we designed, the demodulation of AM,FM,SSB,ASK,FSKand PSK were accomplished.
