Pulse compression is one of the most important technologies in the radar signal procession. This paper mainly discusses pulse compression and its design and realization. Firstly the theory of Radar Resolving and big time-bandwidth-product signal is introduced, focusing on the signal type of linear frequency modulation (LFM) and the theory of matched filter, discussing the performance of linear frequency modulation, with sidelobe compression using mismatched filter, application of digital signal processing (DSP) and so on. This paper ends with a kind of radar signal processing system and a digital pulse compression (DSP) system based on general DSPs TMS320C6201 with the basis of theory mentioned. This system adopts the latest general digital signal processing chirp and large scale programmable devices, with the full use of system resource, and is characterized by flexibility, reliability, easiness of maintaining, also it could be used as a general pulse signal processing board. According to the compression, the paper points out the problems that should be notices in the design of hardware and software.
