PE is an important part of education. With its well education and exercise value, basketball is a popular sport in schools. Basketball teaching is the compulsory project in the middle school physical education syllabus. During the PE curriculum, the phenomenon that students like basketball, but dislike basketball programs has appeared. It is an impendent need of teaching reformation in how to use basketball to promote mental and physical development, and how to use the basketball to meet the students'needs in sports. With the gradual deepening of the PE reform, that taking the basketball as the material in the PE teaching has exposed plenty of substantive questions. By using the methods of referring the document literature, surveys, interviews, statistics, logical reasoning and etc., and taking No.7 school, No.19 school, No.38 school, Shuangliu school, Huayang school, Yongan school etc. 10 secondary schools in Chengdu as the research objects, this author has made a thorough investigation on the current situation of the middle school basketball education. The body sections of this thesis are the following 8 parts: the PE teachers'age and sex status; the high school basketball teaching locations, equipments and facilities in Chengdu; the high school students'understanding on basketball teaching in Chengdu; the leaders'acquaintance and attitude to basketball teaching; under the new curriculum, the middle school teachers'changes on concepts and evaluations; the current situation of the middle school basketball education; the state of the middle school students'extracurricular basketball activities in Chengdu; the high school basketball teaching strategies in Chengdu.Based on the surveys, the reporter makes the following conclusion:1. In Chengdu secondary schools, young teachers have accounted for the main part of the academic structure. The majority of teachers are bachelor degree or above, and the age and title structure is relatively reasonable;2. In Chengdu, most students like basketball, but dislike the basketball class. It needs improvement that teachers teach students according to their aptitude, and maximize the utilization of basketball sports to satisfy the students' needs;3. After implementing the new curriculum, the majority of teachers participated in training; while their inadequate understanding of the new curriculum, the new curriculum is difficult to implement in teaching;4. On the teaching organizational formation, they adopt more naturally administrative placement, but less the placement of options or separations men and women in class;5. The inadequate physical hardware in Chengdu secondary schools has had disadvantageous impact on the teachers'normal teaching and the students'extracurricular sports activities;It is the urgent issue in basketball teaching that how to use the motivation of middle students participating in basketball to improve the basketball skills of students, promote the healthy development of students, advance students'socialization, liveliness. This thesis aims to propose some valuable advice on promoting Chengdu Middle School Physical Education's reform.
