Academic atmosphere has been the constant concern for pedagogy, which is requisite for talented and qualified education and research, for social development and for enhancement in higher education. With the expansion of postgraduate enrollment, academic corruption and misconduct, the postgraduate academic situations give rise to many problems, to which deserve solutions to achieve a significantly practical purpose. This thesis is a case study of the postgraduate education in a certain university, involving questionnaires for some postgraduate students and conducting interviews with sampling students, their teachers and directors and deans. Analyzing the data acquired from those activities, the author obtains the following findings.Firstly, the postgraduates pursue material gain wth their study. Based on the survey, the author finds that most students'journey to postgraduate study means a bridge to better employment after graduation, that a few students pursue further study for their choice of postgraduate experience, that few students for future contributions to the country or their dreams, and that even some without any purpose.Secondly, enthusiasm for their major is rarely found in the survey. Only 9.62 percent of the surveyed students have great interest in their major, while 55.75 percent show no interest or concern toward their major.Thirdly, their attitude toward their study is not appropriate, which reflects their inertia in class, their little time spent in study after class, and their inattention to their major courses. Fourthly, the discipline in their study is absent, which represents their frequent absenteeism in class.Lastly, their study atmosphere is not developed well, which is found in the surveys about the students and interviews with their supervisors and lecturers, most of whom show concern about the academic situation in the university. For the problems found in the postgraduate students, the author analyzes the contributing factors, which lie in the facts that corruptive social elements harbor the student's academic purpose of material gains, that poor management of the school for the students fosters no enthusiasm for their major research, that poor academic performance of some lecturers and little communication between students and teachers deteriorate the student attitude toward the academic atmosphere, and that unqualified candidates resulted from the expansion of postgraduate enrollment do harm to the academic situation. For the issues concerning the academic atmosphere in postgraduate education, the theis provides solutions. Joint efforts from governments, university administrators and lecturers, and postgraduate students involved are required to improve a better academic construction. The governments are supposed to find more ways to provide opportunities of employment for those students. The university authorities should improve facilities and mechanisms in student examinations and academic assessment. The lecturers, striving for a better performance in teaching and research, should set examples to the students. The students should strengthen their integrity and develop their attitudes toward academic pursuit to resist corrupt factors in their academic field.
