On The Educational Function Of China's University Anthem

Abstract/Summary:
University anthem is one of the school's hidden cultural expressions, one important part of school's cultural construction, and the direct show of the university image and school characteristics. A popular university anthem not only could arouse the passion of teachers and students and enhance the cohesion within school, but also could evoke the alumni's affectionate memories to their school, and enhance the school's reputation, achieving the effect of"not see the person first, heard the sound". University anthem is the voice and vision of teachers and students, the paradox and oath of them, and also is the thought and idea for running a school, the refining of the campus culture for the university.Therefore, it shows certain historical value and practical significance to research the university anthem. With the object of university anthem in this study, it aims to develop the potential Chinese traditional culture and its implicit educational functions. Details will show as follow.Part I, introduce the paper including reasons and the significance of choosing the title, the existed problems, the related concept about the research, and the research direction and methods, etc.Part II, interpreting China's university anthem. This part respectively illustrates university's connotations, historical heritage and cultural implications. Firstly, it introduces the meaning of school song and university anthem, and then it illustrates its historical heritage from the aspects of its origin, historical changes and current situation. Finally, it reflects its cultural connotations from the aspects of its ideological characteristics, linguistic features and the art form, etc.Part III, studying the case of university anthem. In this section, basing on the original historical period and background, according to different historical ages, China's university anthems are divided into three categories, in which several representatives are analyzed as case studies, to interpret their respective historical background, cultural characteristics and potential impact, to illustrate its reflected school spirit and culture, and to dig out the"magic weapon"such as shared cultural value and educational function, serving for the cultural heritage and education of the contemporary universities, and paving the way for next part of the role play.Part VI, illustrating the educational function of university anthem. This section highlights the practical significance of the university anthem, and respectively illustrates its educational function from aspects of moral, aesthetic, psychological health and intellectual education. Among them, moral education mainly includes patriotism and love of school, etc, to foster a collective and strong sense of honor and responsibility; aesthetic education aims to improve students'aesthetic and personal qualities; psychological health education are mainly about the sound development of students'mental health and adequate personality; intellectual education is mainly on the students'thinking ability and creativity, and so on.Part V, revelation: the extension of the educational function. On the basis of cultural interpretation and analysis of educational function, this section points at the profound significance of university anthem's educational function from a higher conception, that is, to strengthen the soft power of university education and cultivate more qualified talents, so that it could enhance the philosophy and developing strategies of contemporary university, and connect with the world contemporary university and the modern world blending.
