| The outdoor environment can offer rich learning experiences for young children. Generally speaking, a well-planned playground is full of wonderful things for children to experiment, discover, and explore. Children can do many kinds of activities in outdoors, such as running, climbing, riding bikes and so on. What's more, they can notice the weather, insects, plants, and everything going on around them. Their curiosity is stimulated as they seek answers to their questions about new discoveries. For the young children, outdoor environment can provide the freedom to play games without too much restriction, thus can always lead to greater levels of creativity and understanding. Since the outdoor play has such great value in young children's development, kindergartens should attach great importance to the outdoor play. How do the kindergartens do to organize young children playing outdoors? To know the answer, a study on the current situation of outdoor play in kindergartens in Wuhan has been analyzed completely in this paper, with the methods of statistical analysis, surveys and individual interviews. The results indicate that the contents of outdoor play in kindergartens are rich and various; the teachers have noticed the importance of outdoor play and most of them can make sure that the young children have opportunities to play outdoors everyday; in the outdoors, teachers always pay high attention to the young children's security. Nevertheless, many problems still exist in the outdoor play in kindergartens. Such as some private kindergartens are lack of outdoor playgrounds or even have no outdoor playground; natural elements in the outdoor playground are insufficient; play materials need to add more or be renewed; children need longer time to play outdoors. All these problems can partly been ascribed to several respects, such as the contradiction between the high-quality design requirement and the insufficient financial investment for the outdoor playgrounds in kindergartens, the inconsistency of teachers' educational ideas and educational deeds, the misunderstanding of parents on outdoor play, worry about young children's securities, etc.. So some suggestions are put forward as followings:collecting more money and distribute a larger part of it to build high-quality outdoor playground; encouraging teachers to organize more outdoor play and give young children plenty of time to play outdoors; helping parents to form correct view on outdoor play according to communicate with them; reducing children's security risk through enhancing the management of outdoor play equipment and optimizing the organizational process of the outdoor play. |
