Health education is the most basic way to promote national healthiness. By means of planned, organized and systematic social and educational activities, health education can urge people to adopt healthy behavior and life style, eliminate and alleviate disease risk, prevent diseases and improve life qualityAll countries have been emphasizing the basic roles of school health education on promoting the healthiness of children and teenagers. The World Health Organization (WHO) and International Union for Health Education (IUHE) play the key roles in promoting the development of health education in every country. Health education in china has always been paid great attention to by the government. Due to the late start and the unique national situation, comparing with the developed country such as the United States, school health education still has a long way to go in the field of curriculum objectives, course designs, course contents and teaching evaluation in China. In recent years, the Municipal Government of Chongqing conscientiously carried out the arrangements and requirements of health education of primary schools and secondary schools formulated by the State Council and the Ministry of Education and The Outline of Health Education in primary and secondary schools of Chongqing (trial implementation) also has been promulgated. Although the health education in Chongqing has been made great progress, problems remain.At present, studies on school health education mostly concentrate in the field of theoretical studies on health education ideas, content systems and values of health education and mostly focused on colleges and universities but less on secondary schools. Hence, the further research on secondary school health education in Chongqing is significantly important and emergent.The present study, under the guidance of the principle and method of Pedagogics, Psychology and Education Management, using 13 secondary schools which distributed in different types as research examples, comprehensively using many research methods, including literature research, Q&A survey and individual interview, surveyed the current situation of health education of secondary schools in Chongqing. The contents related on the personal attitude and knowledge towards health education, the implementation of the plan of health education, the ways of teaching and teacher qualities. According to the understanding of health education, negative influences of the examination-oriented education system, curriculum building of health education, teachers for the health education, integration of teaching resource, teaching evaluation systems and imbalanced development of current conditions, the present study abstained following results:1.Although the teachers and students and their parents generally believe that the health education is benefit for the development of secondary school student, they need improve their knowledge and ideology about health education.2. Because of many subjective and objective reasons, the course construction of health education needs to be further improved.3.Effective integration of schools, families and social resources is needed to improve the ability of health education.4.Imbalanced development situation remains in secondary school health education. For instance, situation of health education in key schools and schools located in urban area is often better than rural schools and ordinary schools;situation of health education of junior high school students is much better than senior high school students. In general, health education situation of secondary school in Chongqing is not good enough and need to be improved. The department of educational administration should supply more substantial help and assistance in terms of policy, fund and personal resources to remove all gaps and ultimately construct the balanced development of secondary school health education.On the basis of in-depth analysis to the status quo of secondary school health education in Chongqing, further countermeasures on strengthening and improving secondary school health education are brought forward against the existing problems and weaknesses. First, advance ideas are need to establish a perfect secondary school health education management system. Second, a strong construction of health education courses is needed to enhance the pertinence and pragmaticality of teaching. Third, it's important to integrate educational resources and form the overall force of secondary school health education. Last, the achievable policy and methods are needed to achieve the balanced development of secondary school health education in Chongqing. The results of this study would provide a theoretical basis for scientific decision-making for the administrative departments and benefit for the development of secondary school health education practice in Chongqing.
