The fall of 2005 witnessed implementation of new curriculum in all senior schools in Wuxi Area.Questions as what feelings the new curriculum reform in music education has brought to high school teachers and students,what achievements have been made over the years,which aspect is still in need of inprovement,deserve all music educators' deep reflection.The research is aimed at studying the current situation of music education in senior schools in Wuxi Area,to reach an understanding of feelings brought by new curriculum reform to both teachers and students,to further analyse feelings of new curriculum reform to students of different schools,different music experiences,of different grades and sexes,meanwhile to analyse feelings of teachers of different cities and sexes to new curriculum reform. Suggestions are put forward based upon research for music teachers,high school students,educational administrative department and high school leaders.Questionaires are employed for the research.Objects are focused on all music teachers and senior two and senior three students in three-star and three-star public ordinary high schools.Two questionaires,as a result of discussion of literature review, Research On Current Situation Of Music Education In Ordinary High Schools In Wuxi Area Students' Questionaire and Research On Current Situation Of Music Education In Ordinary High Schools In Wuxi Area Teachers' Questionaire,serve as research tools.The researcher invited four experts to evaluate validity of questionaires. Reliability and identification of questionaires are analysed through forecast questionaires.Formal questionaires come into being through repeated revision and adjustment.Researcher conducted testing through October to December,2008, analysed recalled questionaires with descriptive statistics and One-way ANOVA,and finally drew conclusion as follows:1.Generally students are satisfied with music textbooks,teachers and class efficiency,while bring up some pertinent suggestions to teachers.2.Music classes are normally given in Wuxi area,however, extra-curricular music activities are organised far from satisfaction.3.Differences lie in students of different backgrounds in review on difficulty level of textbooks,enthusiasm for music activities and review on teaching efficiency.4.All music teachers are up to standards in education background.They all have taken part in certain new curriculum training,and wish for further studies.5.Over half of the teachers think that new curriculum has changed their teaching philosophy and enhanced their teaching level.6.Music teachers also put forward their ideas and suggestions to sustainable development of new curriculum reform.The thesis comes up with suggestions to music teachers,high school students,educational adiministrative staff and school leaders on the basis of research results.
