The Research On Minority College Students' Defense Mechanism And Narcissism

The Psychological defense mechanism is a consciously or unconsciously process of psychological adjustment for get rid of uncomfortable feeling and anxiety when individual encounter failures and conflicts, It have many types. The narcissism is the mentation of individuals focus on themselves, love and accept all of themselves unconditional, exaggerate their own capacity and achievements, etc.The psychology of minority college students have its own particularity, and it change with the changing times. The research established on the basis of literature review and open-ended questionnaire. And a formal questionnaire of defense mechanism about minortiy college students is formed after preliminary testing and statistical analysis. To measure 304 minority college students and 144 Han college students then statistical analysis, for research the features about the defense mechanism and narcissism of minority college students, what the defferences of the different narcissistic personality in the use of defense mechanisms, and make a comparison between some ethnic groups.The conclusions were as follows:1. The self-made questionnaire can be acceptabled in the reliability and validity. Adopting the method of combine statistical analysis, theory, the reality, there are 8 defense styles are found:somatization, displacement, sublimation and optimism, projection, regression, fantasy, escape, isolation. According to the theoretical and practical, these defense mechanisms are divided into active and passive defense mechanisms, in which sublimation and optimism is the only one active defense mechanism, other 7 are passive defense mechanisms.2. When the minority college students use of the defense mechanisms, they most use the active defense mechanism, significantly more than the use of passive defense mechanism. In use of defense mechanisms, there are significant difference in gender, also have significant difference between the individuals who live in city and rural.3. The minority college students are not show significant difference about narcissism in gender and city-rural. It is different from hypothesis.4. For the minority college students, individuals between got the higher scores and got lower scores in overt narcissim, between got the higher scores and got lower scores in covert narcissim, both show significant difference in the use of defense mechanisms.5. There are significant difference about ethnic in the use of defense mechanisms, and significant difference about ethnic in narcissistic personality, too.
