With the rapid development of the reform of the educational system in China, the issue about the quality of teachers has attracted more and more attention. How to improve the quality of teaching and train outstanding teachers has become the focus of the teacher education reform of China. Although China has a tradition of respect for teachers and education, there are still some problems in the aspect of selecting and evaluating the outstanding teachers. Moreover, so far China has not yet formulated a unified evaluation criterion of accomplished teachers.The United States is one of the counties which have framed the relatively perfect evaluation criterion of accomplished teachers. Although the evaluation criterion of accomplished teachers made by the National Professional Teaching Standards Board on behalf of American unofficial organizations is nongovernmental, its positive impact has caused wide concern. It not only provides a code of conduct for teachers, clearly illuminating what a good teacher should know and how he or she should do it, but also promotes the general primary and secondary schools of the United States to improve the quality of teaching and develop teacher professionalism. Therefore, knowing the evaluation criterion about how to become an outstanding teacher will help us learn from experience and develop appropriate evaluation criterion of outstanding teachers. At the same time, it can also help us to better improve the quality of teachers and promote the development of education in China.This paper attempts to comprehensively analyze the evaluation criterion of accomplished teachers in the United States. The basic framework of this paper is as follows:first, bring forward the background and the basic theory, introduce the system of the content and the implementation procedure of the evaluation criterion of American accomplished teachers, and then introduce The Evaluation criterion of The English as a New Language Standards of the American Accomplished Teachers, sum up the main feature of the evaluation criterion of accomplished teachers, as well as experience and revelation. On the basis of close analysis of the evaluation criterion-in the United States, we can better understand the evaluation criterion of accomplished teachers, which can provide some experience for the evaluation criterion of our outstanding teachers.
