Any behavior is carried out with motivation. Motivation is usually defined as an internal state that arouses, directs, maintain and adjust behavior. The research on motivation has a long history, and it has given birth to many different theories, of which the most famous ones are Hierarchy of Human Needs by Maslow, Self-efficacy by Albert Bandura, and Attribution Theory by B.Weiner. All the theories are widely used in the area of education, and many practical psychological effects and successful teaching strategies come out from them.English is an important language widely used in the world. It is the English teacher's task to help the students graduate from senior high school with the ability of learning English and physical and mental health. So the teachers should adopt scientific methods, proper strategies to stir the students'motivation to learn English well and voluntarily. Only in this way can the students serve our country and society well.Action research, which joins a teacher and a researcher together, aims to solve the problems the teacher face in his/her work. It gains more and more attention in the area of education. It usually follows the model: finding a problem, collecting information about it and analyzing it according to some scientific theories, making a plan and carrying out the plan to solve the problem, adjusting the plan if necessary.In order to help students build positive attitude to studying English, improve their English level and own ability of studying English , I exploit the action research method to stimulate my students'motivation to study English. During the research, I have adopted methods of statistical analysis, questionnaire survey, charts, diagrams, graph, interview, cases, diaries to record and analyze the collected information about students'English level and the effects of using the motivation strategies.The results prove that it is an effective way to improve students'ability of learning English with motivation strategies. The method is useful to the students of different levels and particularly to the students weak in English.
