With the rapid development of material civilization of mankind, people's demands on life quality is rising day by day. Diet, as the most basic and instinct demands of human, is of great importance which is self-evident. People have rose up to the quality upgrade stage for the purpose of healthy and convenient from the survival consumption stage for the purpose of eating one's fill. They pursue not only physiological remands but also psychological remands in the process of diet. There are a part of families which are full employment but lack of adequate time to prepare meals in the modern urban community. They pursue to meet their convenience, safety, emotional and scientific needs on diet consumption.At the beginning of working over the demand level, behavior motivation, and habits of family diet consumption, the article analyses both the traditional and modern diet concepts of urban families, and then discovers four kinds of major changes which existed in their diet consumption process through qualitative and quantitative study, and later analyses the causes and performance of these changes in a deep-going way. After finding out the space structure, function establishment and action remand, we proposes the design principles of "community kitchen" with the public platform provided by community as foundation, meeting the diet consumption demands of objective families as motive, achieving full employment of rural residents, promoting comprehend and trust between urban and rural residents and strengthening communication and exchanges among community families as target. Namely, they integrate kitchen and dining room, optimize and cellize storage space, dispark the exchange platform, integrate all functions, minimize labor intensity, and intelligence operations. Finally we take a design case of "community kitchen" and propose a way of designing "community kitchen", which is geared to the needs of objective families in urban community, from the family diet, health and safety protection, emotional communication, education, recreation and leisure and other aspects.
