| In contemporary society, guided by the ideas and theories such as the democratization of education, education popularized nationwide and lifelong education, opening up education to become an inevitable choice. Teachers'professional competency development needs teachers themselves to pay tremendous efforts and receive more supports and initiatives from the others. Open classroom is an effective way to promote the teachers'professional competency.Case study is the main research method employed in this study. The case chosen in this study is the S Primary School in Lanzhou (the Case School),from as early as new curriculum reform, this school has been undertaking a series of activities in open classroom to improve school-based teachers Professional development. Data was collected in different ways including interview, on-site observation, participative observation and documents analysis. Detailed information of open classroom practice and influence in S Primary School at Lanzhou is obtained and analyzed the causes of these different influences in depth. Based upon such analysis an effective strategy of enhancing the efficiency of open classroom is explored and several practical recommendations are made for stimulating teachers′professional competency development through open classroom.The thesis approaches open classroom from different types and the influence on teachers′professional competency development is analyzed in regard to the open for teachers, school administrators, parents and professionals. The main causes of different influences include: teachers'personal characteristics; school environment; the devoted or weak support from the others.In order to increase the open classroom positive influence, the researcher brought out the strategies from the two perspectives of striving for school support and teachers'self-improvement. In a word, by this study, we expect to get a clear understanding"what is open classroom?""Why must open classroom?"and"how to do open classroom?"etc. If so, we can realize the expectation aim of providing possible condition for the future research in theory and practice. |
