Covert evasion as a communication strategy, have attracted many domestic and foreign researcher's attention, but most studies have focused on the summary of covert evasion; until now it's very rare to study it from the perspective of cognitive. This thesis investigates the effect of questions on the method of covert evasion and reveals the formation mechanism and procedure of its deception from the cognitive. It has a certain significance to improve people's communication and promote the study of deceptive words. The thesis mainly aims at the covert evasions which are used to answer the informational questions. In the author's opinion, covert evasion means to give an indirect, vague, ambiguous answer and intend to provide some information to cover up his intention of unwanted answering. It is a deception strategy. It's the one focus of this research to investigate the types of covert evasions being responding to various questions. First of all, the informational questions are summarized into inquiry questions, commenting questions, verifying questions. The classifications and statistics of 67 television interviews demonstrate that the person would like to use the strategy of answering nothing to do with key points, vagueness strategy and intentionally omission strategy if he was asked the inquiry questions; the person will be inclined to use the topic shifting strategy, the strategy of answering nothing to do with key points, the strategy of shifting to the unimportance, vagueness strategy and intentionally misunderstanding strategy if he was asked the commenting questions; otherwise the person will prefer to use the explanation strategy, the strategy of transferring to the third party and the strategy of answering nothing to do with key points if he was asked the verifying questions.Another focus of this thesis is revealing the formation mechanism and the course of cognitive for the deception of covert evasion through relevance theory. The procedure of the deception formation as follows, it's objectively relative between words and questions, while subjectively those who ask the questions hope to get the replies and there are the modes of answering these questions in the context of cognitive. The words related to the questions incent the replying modes of those been spoken in their cognitive contexts, which makes them uncorrected faiths and wrongly think the questions have been answered; they think that the looking forward to the information was hidden in the replying by wrong; wrongly thinking those who were asked will give an answer. All are the three typical patterns of covert evasion deceptions, which often can be found in the different stages of the context understanding.
