Through the recovery and development of the private higher education in our country for more than 20 years since China's reform and opening up, the private higher education is now facing the transition from scale-centered development to efficiency-intensified one. In the process of transition, the private colleges have to position themselves accurately, cultivate their own school-running feature so as to enhance the core competitiveness and earn sustainable development. It is of great important that private colleges should optimize resource allocation. At present, many private colleges can only enjoy very poor efficiency in resource allocation because of the inaccuracy of their niche and the opacity of their schooling-running feature, thus the education quality and effectiveness are also affected. Therefore, it is a pressing issue that private colleges should optimize their resource allocation on the basis of rational niche in order to form their own school-running feature.Five sections are dealt with in the paper, which made a thorough theoretical and empirical research into the issues regarding positioning, characteristics and resource allocation of private colleges in China. The first chapter Introduction dealt mainly with the research background, concept definition, the situation of current existing research, significance and the ideas and methodology. With respect to human resources, estate and financial resource, chapter Two made an analysis towards the current status of resources allocation and the remaining problems of the private universities. On the macro perspective, Chapter Three probed into the relationship between the private colleges'niche and the resources allocation, putting forward the strategy of resource allocation under different positioning modes. While at the micro level, Chapter Four conducted a probe and inquiry into the relationship between the formation of the school-running feature and the internal resources allocation within private universities, dealing in detail through case study with how the resources should be allocated in accordance with the school-running feature. The last chapter concluded the strategy of development by virtue of school-running feature and the optimization of internal resources allocation, setting up the evaluation index system on the efficiency of the resources allocation.
