Employment Interview, as one of the most important activities in human resource management, is an essential part of the whole recruitment process for every company or organization. As competition becomes more and more intense, due to the monopolistic position and high welfare of the Chinese state-owned enterprises, as well as the high salary and huge personal development opportunities of foreign enterprises, these two kinds of enterprises are highly appreciated by job-seekers.Different types of enterprises have different recruitment methods and interview styles, especially with the growth of the social diversification, there exists various kinds of misunderstanding and conflicts because of different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, if interviewers and interviewees are not fully aware of cultural differences between the two kinds of enterprises, there may arise some misjudgments and loss, This thesis is aimed to compare the interviewers'styles in the employment interviews between Chinese state-owned enterprises and foreign enterprises from the intercultural perspective so as to show the influences of Chinese and western cultures. In the thesis, the author adopted Hofstede's Four Cultural Dimensions as measuring instrument, and the research object was interviewer-based and supplemented by applicants. Questionnaire and case study of true interview experiences sharing and interview were used in the data collection for this thesis. The questionnaire was used to collect data from the interviewers'perspective, which is also the major source of the information. The case study of true interview experience sharing and interview were used to collect data from the interviewees'perspective, which can improve the reliability of the data collected from the questionnaire. The data analysis shows that the interviewing style in the employment interview of Chinese state-owned enterprises is more collectivistic oriented than that of foreign enterprises, interviewers in these enterprises emphasize more on interviewees'personal, education background and the sense of in-group, while the foreign enterprises'interviewees focus more on interviewees personal ability and sense of cooperation. Similarly, the data analysis also shows the interviewing style in the employment interview of Chinese state-owned enterprises has higher power distance than that of foreign enterprises, interviewers in these enterprises pay more attention to interviewers'conforming to authority while foreign enterprises interviewers advocate equality, like interviewees with different opinions and shared decision-making ability. Furthermore, the interviewing style in the employment interview of Chinese state-owned enterprises has higher uncertainty avoidance, interviewers in such enterprises emphasize on interviewees'loyalty and rule orientation while foreign enterprises'interviewers pay more attention to the innovation ability. At last, the data analysis suggests the interviewing style in the employment interview of Chinese state-owned enterprises is more masculine, which means in these enterprises they have gender orientation in some positions and it's contrary to Hofstede's theory. Based on the findings, the author presented some implications and suggestions. |
