Map culture becomes clear in our mind gradually with the approbation of the art value in maps and the thinking of the signification about old maps. Map culture is integrated with the conception of value, the tendency of action, the spirit and the sentiment of beauty about maps. The intention of the research is helping student learn the connotative thing in maps—the culture of maps—except the knowledge and craftsmanship about maps, including the value behind each map (the sentiment morality etc), the humanism and education reflected on maps, the aesthetic feeling about maps. In the process of learning map culture, the manner of learning about maps will be changed accordingly. The research about the infiltration of map culture in geography teaching has far-reaching meaning to geography education. For one thing, it can promote the development of the new curriculum. For another, it can rich the view of culture of geography curriculum.There four chapters in this dissertation:Chapter 1: The introduction about map culture. Firstly, make definitions of the terms for map, culture and map culture. Secondly, expatiate about map culture in the parts composing a map, including the contents of a map, the orientation of a map, the figure of a map, the materials of a map and the symbols of a map. Finally, analyzing three visual angles from which we can understand map culture: the view of history, the view of society and the view of art.Chapter 2: The significance of the infiltration of map culture in geography teaching, analyzing it from the aspect of students. Firstly, demonstrate how map culture to edify students' moral sentiment, discussing it from the aspects of the patriotism spirits, the virtuous moral characters, the scientific spirits pursuing truthfulness and the idea of sustainable development. Secondly, analyze how map culture to cultivate students' aesthetic interests, interpreting it from the aspects of the style of protracting, the layout of the contents, the distribution of color, the design of symbols and the originality of the motif. Finally, analyze how map culture to develop multi-abilities of students, including ideation, imagination and the ability of making maps.Chapter 3: The reality of the infiltration of map culture in geography teaching. Make questionnaire aiming at geography teachers and middle school students respectively and have talk with some teachers. Form which we can know: the actuality about the apperceiving of map culture by the teachers and students; the tendency for the students to learn and the teachers to teach about map culture; the measures taken by the teacher in practice and the difficulties appearing in their work.Chapter 4: The strategies of the infiltration of map culture in geography teaching. Firstly, analyze how to propagandize map culture in the course of designing maps by students, selecting two strategies: designing maps in order to give prominence to the theme of maps and in order to embody the art value of maps. Secondly, analyze how to apperceive map culture in the process of reading and using maps, bringing forward to two strategies: understanding map culture from finding the history of maps and comparing the discrepancy of different areas.
