With the domestic economic,political,cultural,scientific and technological changes in all spheres of society and the transformation of international environment, China's traditional talent cultivation mode has been challenged enormously since the late 20th century,.In this context,the cultivating goal of "thick foundation,wide Caliber" was developed by higher education institutions."Minor system" reform is an important measure to cultivate compound talents.In the first part,the research gave an overview of the current implementation of "minor" in China's colleges and universities,which then followed by a case study of E University's minor system from historical perspective.In the second part, questionnaires and interviews were conducted and administered to minor-pursuing students,teachers and education managers,in order to reveal the status quo,especially its achievements and problems,of"minor" in E University.The last part came to the following conclusions and recommendations.The conclusions are:(1) the minor in E university was placed with great importance by the university and the departments;(2) the scale of minor in E university has been expanded with the improvement of its quality;(3) the minor in E university has formed its own characteristics after twenty years' development.The recommendations are:(1) the guidance of student learning should be further strengthened;(2) the teaching quality and teaching standard should be emphasized;(3) the reasonableness of teaching plan need to be strengthened;(4) the construction and management of classes should be strengthened;(5) the evaluation of students' learning outcomes and student evaluation of teaching performances should be improved;(6) minor system should be promoted by inter-college cooperation. |
