The new curriculum reform highly values the students'development and is aimed to convert what-to-learn-well into how-to-learn-well and focuses on students'ability cultivating to form their comprehensive quality. This reform also features the students'lifelong study and development, improving study activeness and initiativeness, so they can form independent study habit and ability.Independent study refers to the study style which can instigate student self-motivation,build their knowledge system, regulate and control the study proccess and state. Independent study abilities include self-orient ,self-choosing, self-regulating and self-developmnet abilities. We've set up and practised two teaching patterns, considering the status quo of the on-going biology teaching: self-teaching and coaching, self-inquiry patterns , and accordingly put forward the stragties ----- non-cognitive stratigy and cognitive stratigy under the direction of the theories of independent intension, people-orient study theory, study-habit building theory, cognitive study theory, practical study theory, and lifelong education thoughts fundation theory.I chose two classes I taught as the experimental classes and another two calssses of the same grade taught by my colleague as the control classes on the theory mentioned above. The experiment scheme was carried as planned and adjusted in time when necessary. By contrast, the control classes carried out routine teaching. During the experiment of the whole year, I studied the experiment process and result by means of action reseach, special case study and questionaire method. The final result of the experimental classes compared to the control classes were: 1. The interest in learning bilogy , independent study sense and ability were enhanced. 2. The students'learning results were obviouly improved due to their activeness in learning biology.
