In recent years, reform of mathematics teaching is conducting all over the world continuously, putting out teaching plan catering to the future. There is a international tendency that the vector is introduced into mathematics course. It is a new project in China to study the teaching and learning of vector in depth in mathematics teaching. The project is not only meaningful in the practice of mathematics teaching, but also has important value of theory and practice in the reform of new courses for high school and mathematics teaching and other fields of middle school.This article proceeds from the core concept-vector, using microstudy as the breakthrough point. This is a substantial study based on questionaire from high school students on the level of understanding vector, here comes the major conclusion:1.In general(1) Students ignore the background information of the concept- vector;(2) The understanding of the algebra meaning and algebra operation of the students is much better than that of the geometry meaning and geometric operation;(3) The application awareness of vector is weak;(4) Comparing male students and female students, male students are bit lower in the understanding of vector than that of female students; and in other stages male students are higher than that of the female students; the male students are much higher in the application of vector than that of female students.Therefore, the tendency of the undersanding of vector is"lay stress on algebra and ignore background; lay stress on operation and pay less attention on application".2. From the understanding level of different grades:(1) Senior high students have much better understanding of the algebra meaning of vector than other stages; the application of vector is much lower; on the understanding of vector of grade-three students is higher than that of grade-two students;(2) the understanding of the algebra meaning of vector is very much the same between different high schools, the difference mainly lies in the application of vector; on other stages the key schools are bit higher than ordinary schools.Based on the deep analysic of the questions that students have while leaning Vector, strategies and suggestions on teaching offered in this essay.This study provides theoretical and practical support to the reform of mathematics course of vector in Chinese high school and has referential value and academic value on the reform of courses and teaching in China today.
