With the growth of self-consciousness and the opening-up of our society, university students have gradually formed a sense of self-education. Not only the requirements of people's all-round development and lifelong education that make self-education important, but also a must to develop one's subjectivity and creativity in the golden age of every university student, when self-education is urgently needed. However there still exist some problems, such as the lack of effectiveness, which makes the search for an effective solution an important task to the ideological and political education workers. This paper explores the reasons of the existing problems based on the reality of self-education among university students, focusing on the state of contemporary college students, which is closer to the actual situation, and proposes the effective measures.Four parts are used to describe self-education problems and countermeasures of university students. The first part is the introduction. That is, the paper's theoretical basis, practical significance, research synthesis, research methods and interpretation of related concepts. This section mainly grooms the study of self-education by the other scholars. The second part discusses problems of university students' self-education, which is the entry point for the whole paper. The problems mainly derive from university students' lack of self-awareness and ability to analyze. The third part talks about causes of the problems, pointing out three reasons leading to the present situation. Firstly, the unbalanced character development of college students makes the uncertainty of self-education. Secondly, ideological and political educational errors are not conducive to the development of self-education. Thirdly, common concern from the entire society for self-education is not enough. The fourth part is to solve the problems and raise measures. This section is the end-result. Given the cause of the problem analysis, there are four practical and effective ways: strengthening the main sense of university students to stimulate their demand for self-education; developing the intrinsic self-education methods; improving self-education of university students; perfecting moral education work to combine school education and self-education; and creating a favorable external environment to promote the combination of individual and collective self-education.
