Objectives: To probe the epidemiological characters of Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) in higher technical and vocational college students and analyze the influence factors and mechanism of IAD; and to provide scientific reference for prevention and control on IAD of college students. Methods: One thousand and seven hundred and sixty eight students were obtained from two higher technical and vocational colleges by using convenient sampling. The students were investigated by using inventories and scales, such as General information inventory, Young's Internet Addiction Scale (IAS), Parental Rearing Pattern (EMBU), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Symptom Check Scale List-90 (SCL-90) and UCLA Loneliness Scale. Software SPSS 13.0 was used for descriptive analysis, single-factor analysis and unconditional Logistic mulitipal stepwise regression analysis.Results:1. There are 1563 students who used the Internet in 1768 college students investigated, the rate of Internet use is 88.40%, and 14.84% of Internet users were diagnosed IAD. The prevalence of IAD in male students (23.56%) is significantly higher than that in female students (8.33%), and it's higher in students from city (19.41%) and town (17.74%) than country (9.40%), and there are significant differences among them, P﹤0.01. The students have higher prevalence of IAD, who are only child, with a bad achievement, not satisfied with major, and not adapted to college life. As well as the students from single-parent or restructuring family, high economic income, not harmonious-atmosphere family environment, parents'disagreement on education of children, good educational background of parents, and father's occupations belong to departments of culture, education, health or science etc. and if college students were younger starting using Internet, had a longer year of Internet use , or longer time online every week, preferred Internet games or chatting functions to other functions, they would have a higher prevalence of IAD.2. College students in IAD group have a lower mental health level than non-IAD group. The scores of mental health factors such as somatization, interpersonal relationship sensitivity, depression, horror and paranoid ideation of college students with IAD were higher than that of national norm. The Logistic regression analysis showed that interpersonal relationship sensitivity, depression, paranoid ideation and loneliness were IAD's risk factors.3. College students with IAD have higher scores in parental rearing pattern than non-IAD students, on such factors as punishment, overact intervention, favor, denial, and over protection. The Logistic regression analysis showed that father's punishment, and over protection were risk factors of IAD, so was mother's denial to children.4. College students with IAD have higher scores on objective support, subjective support and utilization of social support than non-IAD students. The Logistic regression analysis showed that having a lot of subjective supports was a protective factor of IAD.5. Unconditional stepwise logistic regression analysis showed that gender (male), year of Internet use, father's punishment, mother's rejection and denial, students'depression and loneliness, family pattern (single-parent or restructuring family), favor of Internet game are risk factors of IAD. And harmonious family environment, satisfied with major, taking good advantage of social supports are protective factors of IAD. The results showed that colleges should pay more attention on those students, and notice their behavior on line. Besides, systemic introduction on major should be given after the freshman's entrance to college, and many kinds of activities should be proceed to promote development of interpersonal relationship among students, which making them get a lot of social-support recourses.Conclusions:1. The higher technical and vocational college students use the Internet universally; the prevalence of IAD is higher than that in former researches. Male students'prevalence of IAD is higher than female students', city and town higher than country, too.2. Students'learning and living condition, mental health level, family environment, parental rearing patterns, social supports and features of Internet use are main influence factors of Internet addiction disorder.3. Internet addiction disorder is caused by multiple factors, including personal, familial, and social factors et al. The multiple-factor mechanism showed that IAD's prevention and control was a synthetic project involving family, college, social and other subject fields. The preventing project should be implemented from multiple angles and by many means.
