This article investigates the cognitive situation of Beijing resident in the way of questionnaire. The field of investigation is Beijing Urban, including Dongcheng, Xicheng, Xuanwu, Chongwen, Haidian, Chaoyang, Fengtai and Shijingshan. The object of investigation is the residents who are older than 16 year-old. The method of the investigation is stratified sampling. The investigation provides approximately 3500 questionnaires, the number of recycling questionnaire is 3296, and the number of effective questionnaire is 3065, the rate is 87.57%. The male accounts for 58%, and the female accounts for 42%.This article mainly discussed the cognition rate and the cognition distortion, using the statistical data in questionnaire. Resident's cognition was analyzed from the space and the resident with the methods of spatial interpolate and spatial autocorrelation. Four conclusions were obtained as follows: Firstly, the spatial cognitive pattern showed ">". Secondly, the cognition of resident had clear Spatial relativity and scale-dependent. Cognition among sites is high-high, low-low comparability in less spatial level, but it is high-low otherness in larger spatial level. 6km is their boundary. Thirdly, cognitive structure is complex, Beijing City can be divided into four sub-regional awareness.Fourthly, Beijing resident's cognitive pattern is not unitary. The cognitive rate and distance of surveying points satisfy Line model, Logarithmic model and Quadratic model.The part of cognitive distortion analyses the datum line of spatial orientation and decompounds cognitive distortion. The main method is Standard Deviational Ellipse and bi-dimensional regression. Three conclusions were obtained as follows: Firstly, Urban spatial cognition of Beijing residents is clear, cognitive distortion of center is smaller than outlying areas. The distance between surveying point and town center and the vale of absolute distortion have the correlation. Secondly, cognition of the informants in the investigated places is centripetal convergency. The cognition of residents to Beijing city is only 78.34% of the actual size. Thirdly, the ring-like road is Beijing resident's cognition datum line. The annular traffic makes residents'cognition zoom is in the four directions, and there is no defluxion in angle.
