Tao xingzhi, regarded as a great contemporary Chinese people's educator, moral education thinker and education reform explorer, innovates an effective theory of moral education conforming to the China's national conditions in his 30-years education practice. Tao's moral education methods, which is an important part of his moral education system, is of great significance and practical value in guiding moral education to contemporary college students.The concepts that consist of Tao's moral education methods are truth, goodness and elegance. That means, in moral education, seeking for truth is the core goal, seeking for goodness is the fundamental requirement and seeking for elegance is the key point. All these are based on pratice, namely education. Tao's moral education theory is mainly made up of the following four parts: methodology of moral education, methods of family moral education to infants, methods of school moral education to students and methods of social moral education to adults.The methodology of Tao's moral education is the integration of teaching, learning and practicing. He argues that in family moral education we should educate children according to their needs and capabilities from their primary stage of life, which needs to be both loose and strict and requires coordinated educating, and the most important aspect lies in cultivating children the concept of'offering'and the main methods we should adopt are encouraging self-help and help and self-cultivating and cultivating. The combination of persuading education and conforming to rules, integration of knowledge, feeling and meaning, studying together of teachers and students, working together, moralizing together of students and teachers, integration of self-governance and democracy, influencing by elegance education all compose the approaches that schools adopt to conduct moral education to students. And the main methods of social moral education to adults are to creat proper atmosphere of academy and art and participate the activity in the war.Tao's methods reveals the integrity, highlights the democratic feature and denhances the actual effect of education. Also, there exist some negative factors in Tao's methods. For example, he emphasizes more on perceptual knowledge than on rational knowledge in primary moral education; there are the shortcomings of confinements in students'self-governance and the uniformity of form in education-through-labor. In view of the malpractices in current collegiate moral education, such as valuing more on dominance than on recessiveness and emphasizing more on persuasion than on practice, by discarding the passive parts and inheriting and developing the positive parts of Tao's methods, we can certainly draw the following indications that may benefit the moral education to contemporary college students. Firstly, moral education should be implemented to permeate comprehensively into college students'life by means of campus life, home environment, mass media and social background. Secondly, it is necessary to increase the effectiveness of moral education by uniting it to practice. Thirdly, students must be regarded as the mainstay of moral education, while displaying teacher's exemplary role. Finally, cultivating the perfect personality of students by founding psychological department of consultation in campus, enhance the education for all-around development and offering courses on life education.
