A Study Of The Changes Of The Contemporary Kuans Of Dong Nationality

Distributed in the adjoining district of the three provinces:Hunan Province, Guizhou Province and Guangxi Pprovinces, Dong Nationality is a southern ethnic group of China, with a long history. In the long process of history, the people of Dong Nationality have their own logic of survival as well as their unique technology of the group's living and development. As a traditional production of the political and legal system, Kuans of Dong Nationality is the crystallization of wisdom in the long-term social management practice of Dong's ancestors, and it not only integrates itself into all aspects of the traditional society of Dong Nationality, also sustains the survival and development of the people of Dong Nationality, and exerts a strong inspiration function on the modern society.Based on field research as a platform and empirical research of cases, under the realistic conditions of the contemporary social and cultural changes of Dong Nationalty, the paper comprehensively analyzes and reveals the changes of Kuans of Dong Nationality, and then discusses the change laws and inheritance mechanism, and tries to find the reasonable value of means of minorities'controlling resources, which is aimed to obtain a new understanding of the state governance and minority local governance, and grass-rooted governance.The full text is divided into four parts. Part 1 introduces the traditional historic patterns and social function of Kuans of Dong Nationality; Part 2 explores the changes of the contemporary Kuans of Dong Nationality, including the evolution of content and structure and the evolution of social function. The former one begins with three aspects: the organization, the activities and the statute; the latter one contains maintenance of positive functions and exclusion of negative functions, focusing on its social control function with customs features. Part 3 comprehensively analyses the reasons of the changes of Kuans of Dong Nationality, specifically from the aspects of the economic production mode, social structure, life style, cultural values, cultural transmission and the traditional theory of "small" and "large"; Based on the reasons, Part 4 further explores the change laws and inheritance mechanism of Kuans of Dong Nationality. The change laws contain the contemporary preservation of traditional reasonable spirit such as democracy, the rule of law, and justice, and economic-social oriented social change which is different from politically dominant traditional change; transmission mechanism is based on the adjustment role of contemporarily-exerted villager autonomy system on ethnic minorities local law and the state law, and the role of digestion and absorption of the local traditional management of resources.
