China's basic education, which is now in a period of rapid change, needs urgently to be created and guided by a large number of high-quality principals. Therefore, much higher expectation lies in principal training. As the initial training for principals, the importance of qualification training is reflected increasingly with its value promoted in the process of professional development of principals. However, the current situation of principal training can not be optimistic with the widespread problem of lacking of effectiveness, which is mainly caused by training curriculum. This research begins with an analysis of characteristics of qualification training, conducts a historical review and an international comparison, and, through several related investigations and reflection, supported and guided by the theory, puts forward views to improve the curriculum, in order to provide reference to the training practice.A understanding of characteristics of principal qualification training is the foundation of study of the curriculum. Considered in the whole system of principal training, qualification training bears its general characteristics of principal training as well as its uniqueness: qualification for training, initiation of the stage, specification of process, professionalism of contents, diversity of objects and expansibility of goals. It provides an initial basis for theoretical support and settlement of issues.Through a historical review and an international comparison of principal qualification training curriculum in China, the author find out that principal training trends to shift from emphasizing skills to developing comprehensive capacity, with its goal of making front-runners of principals. An empirical study on C City in Jiangsu Province has also confirmed that the main problems are: singleness of training objective, rigid and pro-discipline-centered curriculum structure, non-professionalized curriculum contents, receptive learning style, evaluation methods rejecting the discourse right of principals, and the backward construction of curriculum resources. These issues compose the main factors which lead to the poor effectiveness of the training.The research believed that,The theory of principal professionalism, theory of educational leadership and the Learning theory of adult a theoretical foundation for the construction of training curriculum, which points out the direction for the reform of the curriculum. The three theories together support the demands of change which direct towards subjectivity, comprehensiveness, development and practicality.On the basis of theoretical guidance and practical reflection, the author puts forward the ideas of reforming the curriculum of principal qualification training: the goal of the curriculum should be aimed at an active, comprehensive and sustainable development of principals, the content of the curriculum should stress the practice of principals and focus on promoting the educational leadership; the implementation of the curriculum should establish subject position of principals and attend to forming a new teacher-student relationship; the evaluation of the curriculum should put emphasis on comprehensiveness and development of principals, and put a high premium on a continuous improvement of training process; principals should be understood as an important resource of training curriculum, and integration of training resources should be carried out through open and optimized strategies. On this basis, a fundamental concept of new curriculum of principal qualification training can be formed.
