The reform of the new curriculum of Senior high schools advocates"protruding students as the principal part and respecting the differences of the student individuals."Guided by this concept, based on the analysis of the related documents, through literature research, surveys, case analysis and comprehensive uses of various research methods, this thesis probes into how to carry out the teaching-on-different-level method and how to ensure the effectiveness of this method.This thesis is a combination of theory and practice. It describes the current situation of researches on the teaching-on-different-level method done by scholars abroad and home in details. Also, on the basis of teaching practice, from the aspects of effect, efficiency and benefit systematically, this thesis states the necessity and feasibility of performing the teaching-on-different-level method, which can be suitable for the current senior school teaching situation of our country.Currently, in the English teaching process of senior schools, the problem of low -effectiveness in teaching still exists, since many teachers are still carrying out the old teaching methods though what they are using now is the new teaching material. The reasons why the teaching effectiveness is insufficient mainly cover some of the aspects --- the restriction of the teaching-in-the-class system, the out-of-date teaching methods, no respect for the differences of the student individuals and the limited time spent on researches, and so on. To solve these problems, this thesis puts forward the principles that should be mastered in performing the teaching-on-different-level method, and connecting the practice of the school and the writer, introduces the attempts that have been done, which involve the understanding of the concepts, the practice on the method and the feelings about the advantages and disadvantages of it. At the end, this thesis makes explicit the requirements to the teachers and school management.To sum up, the teaching-on-different-level method is a useful strategy of improving the effectiveness of the class teaching at the background of the reform of the new curriculum. It is an activity that calls for more practice. It needs more scholars, teachers schools and teaching administrations to try together and co-operate, developing what is useful and discarding what is not suitable. Only in this way can we really elaborate its functions.
