Illustrations are organic parts of Chinese teaching materials, and they are also important resources of Chinese teaching. Though Chinese textbooks published by Jiangsu Education Press has a rather short history, the illustrations in the books show more functions that the text could not take the place of: the illustrations can arouse the students' interest, and they make the abstract text specific. This would enhance the students' memory, deepen the content of the text, and promote the education of emotion and esthetics. However, in the teaching, the illustrations are not made full use of. The reform of basic course in early 21st century has brought new chances and requirements for drawing and using illustrations. The teachers should take good advantages of the illustration to teach Chinese and practice writing, thus the students' ability of learning research would be improved.
